MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER

Role Summary:
An established engineering organisation delivering projects across the UK water and wastewater sector is looking to appoint a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its multi-disciplinary design team.
Responsibilities:
Mechanical Design & Engineering
Deliver mechanical design for UK water and wastewater assets including:
Pumping stations and treatment works
Mechanical process plant and pipework systems
Screens, filters, chemical dosing, and sludge handling equipment
Produce and review design deliverables such as:
P&IDs and mechanical layouts
GA drawings and equipment schedules
Mechanical calculations and technical specifications
Project Delivery
Support feasibility studies, optioneering, and value engineering.
Assist with procurement through technical specifications and supplier queries.
Review vendor drawings and technical submissions.
Provide site-based technical support during installation and commissioning where required.
Quality, Safety & Compliance
Ensure designs comply with:
UK water industry standards (WIMES, water company specifications)
Relevant British and European Standards
CDM Regulations and health & safety requirements
Contribute to design risk assessments, HAZOPs, and design reviews.
Support ISO 9001 quality processes.
The Candidate:
Essential
Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
Strong experience in mechanical design within the UK water or wastewater sector.
Good knowledge of mechanical process equipment used in UK water treatment.
Experience producing mechanical drawings, calculations, and specifications.
Proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar tools.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Desirable
Working toward Chartered Engineer (CEng) status.
Experience working on AMP capital delivery frameworks.
Site experience supporting construction and commissioning.
Awareness of sustainability and energy-efficient design.
The Offer:
Salary £50,000 – £60,000 (dependent on experience)
