DEMENTIA SUPPORT WORKER

Role Summary:
The Approach “My Day My Way” scheme aims to support people affected by dementia with day activities by providing a 1:1 support worker to assist them. Support workers are matched with individuals on an ongoing basis for a set number of hours per week and this can include virtually any activity that an individual wishes to do (subject to a satisfactory risk assessment being completed). Support can be provided in evenings and at weekends where required. Expenses incurred during any activity are reimbursed. Approach also runs a number of Activity Groups and Day Support Sessions which you may be required to attend.
Responsibilities:
To support individuals to engage or re-engage in activities, by supporting them on a 1:1 basis in a range of different activities, wither within the community or at people’s own homes or within the Approach Activity Groups and Day Support Sessions
To provide encouragement, reassurance and support to the person receiving the service so they are able to fully enjoy and participate in their chosen activity
To contribute to the wellbeing of individuals by maintain records as required, in line with organisational policies and procedures
To attend training courses as required
To work the minimum guaranteed number of hours contracted each week. If a client you usually work with does not want a call you will be asked to cover for staff absences on MDMW calls or in any other appropriate task determined by the Approach Management Team, up to your minimum contractual hours and on the days you have confirmed you are available to work. Your hours will be set out on a rota compiled by the Dementia Services Manager/MDMW Officers. You will be expected to be available for at least 4 days out of 7
To be fully vaccinated against Covid-19
The Candidate:
Personal and/or experience of supporting people with dementia or related conditions and needs
Experience of working on a 1:1 basis with individuals (preferably people with dementia)
An awareness of the need to maximise the dignity independence and choice of individuals and demonstrate this in practice
An awareness of anti-racist and anti-discriminatory working, confidentiality, equal opportunities and health and safety and a willingness to show these in practice
Able to meet the requirements of the job role and have a flexible approach to working hours/days and willing to work weekends, evening and unsociable hours as required
Hold a current driving license and daily access to a vehicle suitable for transporting people with dementia
Must have had or be prepared to have the COVID vaccinations
The Offer:
In return our client can offer a salary of £10 per hour plus travel costs.
